The Impact of Prints

For years I was afraid of prints, especially big prints or bright colors. My entire closet consisted of black, navy and grey. As I look around, especially at women my age this seems to be an ongoing problem.

Just recently at an awards ceremony for my office I noticed that everyone was wearing black, both dressed up and dressed down. Amazingly we did have a very good year and had a lot to celebrate. I felt a need to wear a red dress and definitely felt special. One of my fashion wardrobe goals this year is to work towards a  substantial increase in the number of prints in my closet. This was my inspiration tonight. I especially like the combination of Turquoise and Red which I have never put together before.

Tangerine, the 2012 Color of the Year

Oscar weekend brought out the color of the year! The color authority Pantone named tangerine as 2012′s most wanted hue.

Interestingly enough my company, First Weber Group also has the colors of Orange and Black.  Both of these concepts were my inspiration last night for this selection.  I love the edginess of the leather jacket and the pop of color with the orange clutch.  Definitely has the "New York" vibe and guarantees to have a good time out on the town.

Mixing Patterns - Yes or No?

I was always taught not to mix patterns.  Who comes up with these ideals anyways?  I have been experimenting with mixing colors and patterns.  What I have learned is the sky is the limit.

Here is an example of two patterns that go together well.  The small polka dots become a neutral and add visual interest to the pattern in the skirt.  The red handbag gives it just the pop of color needed.  Did you notice the red trim on the shoes?  For more ideals visit me on Pinterest at http://www.pinterest.com/suecstark.  Enjoy!

How Important Is Color Anyways?

Color is VERY important especially at this time year in the US.  If you are not sure where to start with color try something subtle like a scarf or a handbag.  Jewelry also can add a splash of color.  Don't be afraid to mix-it up, have fun and play.  You will be amazed at how much a splash of color will improve your mood and make you feel better about yourself.

What is Boucle?

Finely textured boucle jackets are a classic look with trendy appeal. Boucle (pronounced "boo-clay") is a French word meaning "to curl." It describes a type of yarn, usually three-ply, having one thread looser, which produces a fine, bumpy texture, or the term indicates that the fabric was woven or knitted from boucle yarns.

This is a great choice for now and into the spring.  The neutral colors are very versatile and the "pop" of pink will take you right into the spring.  The "Boucle" jacket is very "Chanel" like and is right on trend with the lady-like look that is now trending so high.
